Coteaux du Quercy: the wine of Quercy Blanc celebrates 15 years as an AOC
Approved on 26 October 2011, the Coteaux du Quercy appellation is 15 years old. Grapes, terroir, a thousand years of history and good places to taste it this autumn.

On the last weekend of October, Montcuq comes alive to the rhythm of hooves. On 31 October and 1 November 2026, the Place de la République hosts the 50th edition of the 2 Days of Montcuq. This equestrian endurance race has become an international benchmark for the sport over the years.
It all began in 1977, on the initiative of Pierre Passemard. What was then a local race now attracts riders and horses from all over France and abroad. Fifty editions later, the event remains true to its spirit. It is a two-day race through the Quercy Blanc countryside, along ridge paths, through woodland, and on quiet country lanes.
The main event is run in two 100-kilometre stages, one each day. Several categories share the route:
In endurance riding, speed is important, but the horse's health comes first. At each stage, the horses undergo veterinary checks. These checks monitor heart rate, gait, and recovery. A horse in top condition at the finish is as valuable as a fast time.
Entry is free, and the route offers several great viewing spots.

Sunday 1 November
Our tip: watch the early morning starts at Place de la République as the mist rises over the valley. Then head to Castelnau-Montratier to see the horses pass by mid-morning. The hilltop village, with its windmills and views over the hillsides, is well worth a visit in its own right.
At the end of October, the region shows off its most beautiful colours. You will see golden vines, russet oaks, and soft light on the white stone. Between watching the horses, you can enjoy Montcuq's tower and the village's restaurants. On Sunday, the market is also held in the Place de la République from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. It has 50 to 80 stalls. This is the perfect opportunity to watch the start of the second stage, then fill your basket with local produce. The autumn half-term holiday falls at the same time, making it a great time for a family getaway.
For detailed timings and any updates, the organisation's Facebook page will post the latest information closer to the race date.
Staying in the area? Louroca, in Barguelonne-en-Quercy, is just a few minutes from the race route.
