A little history

Louroca

A house set on a rock

In Occitan, the word Lou Roca means « the rock ». The inspiration for naming our house Louroca comes from the fact that the house is literally set on a rock.

Formerly, Louroca was a presbytery, the home of the priest and the curate. The Bruxsel room was the priest's housekeeper's, the Anvers room the curate's (with a small fireplace). The church stood at the bottom of the combe (the small valley), where the cemetery is today. Later, the house became a farm. Grapes were pressed here to make Cahors wine.

Today, after coming to the Lot several times, a Belgian couple decided to settle here more permanently. Their wish is for Louroca to fit into this superb Quercy countryside with as much authenticity and respect as possible.

Mourgues

A typical hamlet of the Quercy Blanc

Mourgues, Mourguez, « Monaco ». Until the 18th century, Monaco was called Mourgues. It is a very widespread place name in the Occitan-speaking regions (several dozen hamlets). The word morgue means a monk in Occitan, and these must be places that once had a small monastic establishment.

Mourgues is a pretty little hamlet typical of the Quercy Blanc region. It is made up of about ten stone houses clinging to the east and west slopes of the combe (the small valley).
